THE 4TH CHIMPANZEE, IN THE WHITE HOUSE, by Art Smukler, author & psychiatrist

In 1967 Desmond Morris wrote The Naked Ape, and in 1992 Jared Diamond wrote The Third Chimpanzee. Both of these scholarly works examined how human beings evolved from our ape-like ancestors.

It took millions of years for man to emerge from the trees, stand up straight, use tools and finally use his brain to form a civilized society. At one time, the United States was a leader among countries — leading the civilized world and setting an example how a free society can work (Not perfect by any means, but still amazing).

It’s taken Donald Trump 6 months to return us to the trees. He is like a primitive chimp pounding his chest and threatening whoever will listen to his electronic screeching. Whenever he has a chance, he tosses a ripened verbal fruit at anyone who doesn’t think he is wonderful.

No one will stand up to him!

If only one man or woman in the House or Senate has the courage to form a strong coalition and put him where he belongs, back in his “Tower” where he can screech all he wants at people who are foolish enough to work for him, there may be hope.

When The Boy Scouts of America has to apologize for his sickening thumping of his own chest, doesn’t this mean something? Why won’t Congress wake up before it’s too late!

If you enjoyed reading, Inside the Mind of a Psychiatrist, you might also enjoy Dr. Smukler’s novels, Chasing Backwards, a psychological murder mystery, Skin Dance, a mystery, and The Man with a Microphone in his Ear. All are available as paperbacks and eBooks.

  1. I liked your very astute comparison of our president to his animal counterpart. I’d like your thoughts (psychological underpinnings) on why the republicans in power are still supporting him. I also question why I hear so little from the Democrats in congress.

  2. As I recall, we had a similar discussion before Trump was elected, Art, and you were right about him then, and you are right about him now. He is an embarrassment and a disaster, and I suspect he is (and probably has been for a long time) quite ill. Unfortunately, I don’t think we will be rid of him easily or very soon.

  3. This is the last straw! How many times have those four words ground through my teeth in the past six months? Can’t count, though I think the last time I uttered them was when I watched Trump giving his little pep talk condoning police brutality to a gathering of police in – Long Island was it? We have a thug sitting in the Oval Office. A demonic thug. There won’t be enough Lysol in the world to get rid of the stench in the White House when we finally give that atrocity named Donald Trump the boot.

  4. Art,

No disagreement anywhere. We have a dangerous person in the top spot in our country and a spineless majority party. All I can say is I hope Mueller is allowed to conduct his investigation which I believe will expose the POTUS, his family, and his henchmen in the cabinet for what they are – a bunch of crooks, liars, and untrustworthy individuals who should not be in the tower but behind bars.

If you follow the series “House of Cards”, I think we’d be better off with Frank Underwood :-).

  5. The reason Congress/Senate have decided to let him continue to Tweet the days away is 1) trying to shut him up while retaining some decorum, they have found impossible; 2) they fear that they will be the next Saturday morning Tweet fodder; 3) They want to remain in their tidy little jobs for as long as possible and anything said for or against this petulant adult child might get them out of their own cushy position. Fear right now is palpable, if they are too close, they might be swept up in the tornado of Russian Rot, if they are too far, they seem like cowards. There is no winning in this particular situation for any of them. The situation has been allowed to be volatile and is escalating. Basically, we, as the voting public, for or against, must simply wait, until like a boil it POPS!!! Painfully, smelly, and downright nasty. Shouldn’t take too much longer. Patience is a virtue.
