Arthur Smukler, an award-winning novelist and Torrance-based psychiatrist, comes to the Westwood Branch Library to discuss his blog, “Inside the Mind of a Psychiatrist, Harnessing Obsessions to Write Books and Stories” and read from his mystery novel, “Skin Dance.” This event is free to the public and designed with adults and seniors in mind.

Art Smukler, MD was born and raised in Philadelphia, went to college and medical school in Pennsylvania, and completed his psychiatric training at UCLA. He is a board-certified psychiatrist, specializing in the treatment of adults with a subspecialty in adolescents. As a member of the UCLA faculty, he ran an award-winning psychotherapy conference for psychiatric residents and received the coveted “Golden Ear” award. He has published in psychiatric journals, and won the award for excellence in creative writing at The Santa Barbara Writers Conference.
Now a full-time author, he applies his deep understanding of the human psyche to the motivations of his fictional characters.

Inside The Mind of a Psychiatrist 
Art, I would love to hear you speak. Any chance of doing this in the South Bay?? I leave the house about 5:00 a.m. to get to my Orange office before the traffic becomes misery. 6:00 p.m. in Westwood might be tough, but I’ll try to make it. As long as you read the end of Skin Dance where Carlos has the conversation with himself.
